The City of Newport - Agate Beach State Recreation Site Area

The Agate Beach State Recreation Site is a very popular Oregon State Day Use Park Facility overlooking the beach strand of Agate Beach in the City of Newport Oregon. The park is accessible from NW Oceanview Drive, a street that runs along the coastline towards Nye Beach from a turnout off of Highway 101. The Agate Beach State Recreation Site includes a small parking lot area on the west side of the street with a pathway to the beach. Across the street, the main park area offers a spacious parking lot, public restrooms, picnic tables on grass lawns, and a tunnel under the roadway leading to the area’s beach trails. On the east end of the park, a trail leads east to another tunnel under Highway 101 connecting to a stairwell leading to NE 32nd Street and the entrance to the Pacific Homes Beach Club. Also, this same tunnel leads to a nature pathway system that runs south towards the Lakewood Hills Development and the Big Creek Reservoir Area. The trail meanders through beautiful evergreen trees, verdant ferns and wild rhododendrons, wooden boardwalks and bridges, and ends near the street leading to the Big Creek Reservoir. The Agate Beach Area is host to a variety of merchant services situated in retail shopping malls found along the commercial corridor of Highway 101. Many of the residential neighborhoods located within Agate Beach are found on either side of the commercial zones providing convenient access to these merchant and city services.
