The City of Newport - Nye Beach Turnaround City Park

Within the City of Newport, the Agate Beach Area gives way to the south to the Historic Nye Beach Area on the west side of Highway 101. The beach sands of Agate Beach and Nye Beach combine together to form over a four-mile long beach strand running from Yaquina Head to the north jetty on the Yaquina Bay. The Nye Beach Area draws its heritage to the original founding of the City of Newport and was one of the main tourist destinations for visitors arriving to the Newport Area. In the early days, a boardwalk connected Newport’s Bayfront Area with the resort areas of Nye Beach. Many of the residential Nye Beach neighborhoods feature older vintage beach cottages that were used as second homes during the summer retreat season. Today, the Nye Beach Area is a popular neighborhood for its many city and merchant services plus being the hub of the cultural arts scene in Newport, and to some extent, the Lincoln County Arts Scene in general. The Nye Beach Turnaround City Park boasts one of the best beach accesses in Lincoln County. The Nye Beach Turnaround City Park overlooks the beach strand of Nye Beach and offers a focal point for many of the residential neighborhoods surrounding the Newport coastline. The Nye Beach Turnaround City Park features many seaside amenities including public restrooms and a foot-wash area, public parking spaces, bench and picnic tables for enjoying the scenery and a nice beach access. Besides the beach access aspect, the Nye Beach Turnaround Area offers excellent fine and casual dining options, retail gift shops and art galleries, and a variety of different ocean view and oceanfront lodging properties. Also within the Nye Beach Turnaround Area are several cultural art centers supporting visual arts. The Newport Visual Arts Center is a public art facility offering public exhibition space and art education programs. The Yaquina Arts Center is run as an arts association and features the work of local artists through on-going shows.
