The City of Toledo - Yaquina River

The City of Toledo is located on the Yaquina River about seven miles inland from the ocean and today celebrates its heritage of small town living along the river. The City of Toledo achieved its 100 Year Centennial Anniversary in 2005 and is known for its quaint downtown area located on a city street near the Yaquina River. The downtown area is thriving with antique and craft shops, art galleries and artist studios, and a history center museum. The history of Toledo draws on many eras of development including the original homesteading on the Yaquina River, the railroad line coming in from Corvallis and at one time, the largest Spruce Mill operating in the United States. The Spruce Mill was famous for the wood used for aircraft construction in World War One as well as the wood supplied to build Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose. The City of Toledo offers many residential choices found either in its city downtown areas or in the wooded hills surrounding the city. Since the City of Toledo draws on its connection to the Yaquina River, many outdoor activities are available to the community including river fishing and boating. Also, the Olalla Lake Area located a few miles north of Toledo provides additional outdoor activities including lake fishing with stocked trout, swimming and lakeside picnicking.
