Oregon Coast Aquarium - Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center
South Beach is home to the very popular Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center. The Oregon Coast Aquarium features many wonderful outdoor and indoor exhibits highlighted by its Passages of the Deep Underwater Adventure. The exhibit offers a walk through passage into the deep ocean within several acrylic tunnels offering views of sea life in motion including sharks, fishes and other sea creatures. Other exhibits include the Sea Otter Exhibit, the Seal and Sea Lion Exhibit, the Sea Bird Aviary, the Jellies Exhibit and many other special exhibits covering different aspects of our connection with the ocean and marine sciences. Located nearby is the campus of the Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center. The Center is a dedicated marine research laboratory for marine sciences research as well as offering a Visitor Center for public education including an estuary trail sited along the Yaquina Bay providing excellent interpretive information about the plants and animals that live within this estuarine ecosystem. Also, the campus houses various government agencies conducting research on marine systems and coastal processes plus oceanographic research.
