The Community Neighborhood of Carmel Knoll - Moolack Beach
The stretch of Highway 101 running south from Otter Rock to Moolack Beach features fabulous views looking out over the white water surf and distant vistas of Yaquina Head. This stretch of highway amounts to only a few miles in length but by its shear design set along the edges of the coastal bluffs makes for a magical ride. A walk along the beach looking up at the highway passing along the cliff adds a whole new dimension to coastal highway construction. Heading south are several turnouts available on the west side of the roadway offering the traveler an opportunity to pull over and gaze out over the beautiful scenery, especially thrilling at the sunset hour. Some of the stopping points include nature trails leading down to the sandy beach areas below. To the south of the Beverly Beach Area is another residential neighborhood known as Carmel Knoll, accessible via a turnout on the east side of Highway 101. The Community of Carmel Knoll features both ocean view and interior treed home sites on a hillside overlooking the beach strand south of Beverly Beach. The next area reached on Highway 101 is the Moolack Beach Area, deriving its name from Moolack Creek that drains into the ocean near the beach. A nice parking area located just off Highway 101 overlooks Moolack Beach and provides an excellent stopping point for enjoying the views of the surrounding coastline or taking the trail down to the beach. Moolack Beach is known for its sparse crowds and excellent kite flying conditions as well as a beachcombing spot for agate and fossil hunting activities.
