Salishan Leasehold - Salishan Spit

The Salishan Area includes several residential neighborhoods and condominium developments located on either side of the Highway 101. The west side neighborhood was developed first in the 1960s and is known today as the Salishan Residential Community, or otherwise commonly referred to as the Salishan Leasehold. The Salishan Leasehold refers to the type of land ownership adopted in the development, which is based on a leasehold orientation versus the more common Fee Simple form of land ownership. The Salishan Leasehold Development includes the Salishan Spit Area and offers spectacular ocean frontage home sites overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Gleneden Beach and the Siletz Bay Estuary. Salishan Drive is the main road that leads from the main entry point at the security gatehouse and heads northward along the Salishan Spit to the north end of the development. The Salishan Spit itself ends at the mouth of the Siletz Bay Estuary, the place where the salt water of the Pacific Ocean meets the fresh water of the Siletz Bay. The north tip of the Salishan Spit remains undeveloped and is a popular haul out spot for harbor seals and sea lions who feed in the estuary and warm their bodies in the sun. Salishan Drive ends at a parking lot overlooking the Siletz Bay. This area includes parking for residents and guests staying at the Salishan Lodge, and provides trail access through the grassy dunes to the beach, the Siletz Bay and to the end of the Salishan Spit.
