The Community of Seal Rock - Seal Rock State Recreation Site
The Seal Rock State Recreation Site is one of the main visitor attractions situated along the Central Oregon Coast. The Seal Rock State Recreation Site is accessible off Highway 101 and includes a spacious paved parking lot area. The park grounds feature a manicured grass lawn area plus public restrooms and trash receptacles. A short pathway leads westward out to a viewpoint overlooking the north section of the rock formations of Seal Rocks and the beach strand of North Seal Rock. A trail system connects from this viewpoint area heading southward eventually meeting up with another terrific viewpoint overlooking Elephant Rock and the south section of Seal Rocks. Also, the park has an ADA Accessible Pathway starting at the south end of the paved parking lot and connects with the Elephant Rock Viewpoint. A picnic area is located in between the two viewpoint areas and encompasses individual picnic tables set amongst a stand of shore pines and spruce trees. From the Elephant Rock Viewpoint, a paved trail leads down the hill to the beach strand heading southward from Elephant Rock. For beach enthusiasts, the beach strand affords wonderful views of the south section of Seal Rocks and its beautiful sea stacks and basalt needles. Also, the beach strand area overlooks fantastic tide pool areas located just offshore. During low tide and minus tide conditions, the height of the ocean waters recedes, exposing a colorful world of marine species residing within the intertidal zone. The Tide Pools of Seal Rock are some of the finest marine gardens found on the Oregon Coast and feature abundant species of invertebrates, clams and mussels, starfish, anemones, urchins, barnacles, crabs, kelp and other sea plants, and many small fishes.
