Tenmile Creek Area - USFS Ocean Beach Picnic Area
At the south end of the Tenmile Creek Community Area is the historic Tenmile Creek Bridge completed in 1931 as part of the Oregon Coastal Highway System. The bridge is another architectural marvel created by Conde B. McCullough, Oregon’s master bridge designer. On the south end of the bridge is the Oregon State Park known as the Stonefield Beach State Recreation Site. The Day Use Park includes a parking lot area and access to the beach. Heading north of the park affords the traveler with views of the Tenmile Creek Bridge and the running waters of Tenmile Creek. The Tenmile Creek Water Basin is home to the Audubon’s Tenmile Creek Sanctuary, an inland habitat area protecting several threatened and endangered species depending on old growth forest or the creek for their survival including the Marbled Murrelet, Spotted Owl and several fish species. Heading south, Highway 101 meets up with the Tokatee Klootchman State Natural Site, an Oregon State Park offering scenic ocean views and beach access. Another fine park location built along Highway 101 is the USFS Ocean Beach Area, a park established within the Siuslaw National Forest featuring fabulous picnic grounds and a nice pathway to the beach.
