The Community of Carmel Knoll - The Moolack Beach Area
The Community of Carmel Knoll is situated on the hillsides overlooking the Moolack Beach Area and is accessible via a turn-off available on the east side of Highway 101. This small residential neighborhood features lot locations affording nice ocean views as well as properties found on the interior set amongst the shore pines and evergreen trees offering additional privacy to the homeowner. The Moolack Beach Area is named after Moolack Creek, a local creek draining out onto the beach and then into the ocean. A roadside parking area is located just off Highway 101 overlooking Moolack Beach and provides an excellent stopping point for enjoying the surrounding coastline scenery from Otter Rock to Yaquina Head plus providing a trail to the beach. Moolack Beach is known for its sparse crowds and excellent kite flying conditions as well as a beachcombing spot for agate and fossil hunting activities. Moolack Beach extends southward ending at Yaquina Head. The NW 68TH Street Beach Access available in the City of Newport includes access to Moolack Beach as well as offering remarkable vantage points of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.
