Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area - Yaquina Head Lighthouse

The Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area is a 100-acre site established by Congress in 1980 and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to preserve its natural, scenic, historic, educational, and recreational values for present and future generations. The park features a variety of nice outdoor activities and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities making it a popular destination year round. The park grounds include a fabulous trail system that interconnects its many Points of Interest together including access to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. From its inaugural lighting on August 20, 1873, the lighthouse has been a prominent landmark of the Newport Area with its first order Fresnel Lens visible off shore at approximately 19 miles. At 93 feet in height, the Yaquina Head Lighthouse carries the distinction as being the tallest lighthouse built on the Oregon Coast. Public tours are available for visiting the exhibits found within the lighthouse plus observing the lens assembly operating at the top of the lantern house. Also, the park features tide pool areas and wildlife viewpoints for taking in the natural beauty of the area as well as offering an Interpretive Center with very informative exhibits and a bookstore.
